Bible Verses to Live By in 2018

By Katie Heid

It’s New Year’s Resolution time, and that means setting goals so unattainable they’re guaranteed to be broken by next Thursday!

Rather than signing up for a gym membership that’s likely to lapse, or setting an unrealistic scale goal, or declaring “I’ll be less of a she-beast in the school drop off lane this year,” I figured we all need something more concrete to stand on when life’s challenges taunt us. True change comes from plugging into Word and following Christ’s example.

Below are a few go-to Bible verses that will work for 2018 and beyond.  Be encouraged!

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
~ James 1:2-3

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
~ Colossians 3:1-2

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching. ~ Hebrews 10:24-25

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. ~ Galatians 6:10

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked, or stand in the way that sinners take, or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night. ~ Psalm 1:1-2

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. ~ James 1:19

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone.  Forgive as the Lord forgave you.  And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
~ Colossians 3:12-14

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. ~ Galatians 6:2

The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for He knows their day is coming. ~ Psalm 37:12-13

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. ~ Matthew 11:28-30

For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. ~ Matthew 18:20

Live in harmony with one another.  Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.  Do not be conceited. ~ Romans 12:16

Do not let your hearts be troubled.  You believe in God; believe also in me.  My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  You know the way to the place where I am going. ~ John 14:1-4

(Although, she would rent it out in exchange for a good nap.)
