What a Little Bird Showed Me…

I had a tough morning the other day.  And as I was driving to work, my mind took a quick slide into “what if”.  I felt uncertain and frustrated.  Afraid.

Then I pulled into my parking spot and this little bird was there.  I expected it to fly away, but it didn’t.  I turned the engine off, got out of the car, and it stayed.  I stood there watching it watch me.

Words that a friend shared weeks and weeks ago on a Sunday morning came to my mind ~

Look at the birds, free and unfettered,
not tied down to a job description,
careless in the care of God.
And you count far more to Him than birds…
Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative,
God-provisions…

Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow.  God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. (From Matthew 6, MSG version)

I’d like to think that little bird was there on purpose, waiting for me ~
a little messenger of hope.

I think he was looking at me, head tilted, calmly saying ~
Don’t panic, friend.  He sees.  He’s here.

We won’t take one step where He hasn’t already gone before us.
We won’t take one step where He isn’t holding us in His hands.

So we take a deep breath and keep going.
