God’s plan is easy to accept if it calls for immediate deliverance. No pain? No frustration? No fear, anxiety, or challenges? No idiots to deal with? Sign me up.
Following God is not an ala carte faith. We can’t pick the best parts of this life and bypass the uncomfortable, painful, uncertain events. We’re required to pick up our cross and follow Him, no matter where He leads.
But we serve a good God, and He is with us every step of the way.
The Israelites had celebrated their miraculous freedom from slavery in Egypt, only to be trapped in the desert between Pharaoh’s encroaching armies and the Red Sea. They had just witnessed their mourning turn into dancing. How could Moses have led them to certain death? Why would God abandon them?
He didn’t. Instead, He spoke through Moses in Exodus 14 and said, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (verses 13-14).
Be still. God is fighting on your behalf. That was God’s message for the Israelites on that day, and it’s a poignant reminder for us.
Even so, He is with you.
