volunteering in the community
this is my second year volunteering in my community. last year i volunteered at a small local zoo. this year i am volunteering at the library doing a mural for the kids section. periodically my job will lay off after the busy season, so i have a lot of time on my hands and like to take the opportunity to help. volunteering has a lot more benefits than just feeling good about yourself. its a great way to earn additional job experience and looks great on a resume. plus i normally keep my weight down while i am working since i move around so much. yet i tend to gain some back when i am laid off for the season. i have a hard time doing workouts in the same place all the time, i get easily bored with it and lose my motivation. volunteering my time somewhere helps keep me moving and out of the house.
it is a lot of fun also, i get to meet a lot of new people and have different experiences that help in my growth with Christ. since i am doing murals its fun when people and many many kids come up to me and ask me about what i am doing. sometimes they will just stand there and watch me draw and color, so i will take that opportunity to tell them what i am doing and get to know them a bit more.
i feel it is important to show others in the community a serving spirit, not many people will give up their own time to do something for others for nothing in return. that is the kind of christian i like to show to people

Thanks for sharing! Serving others and our communities is so important! :-D Did you get to design the mural or did the library have a layout in mind?

the library had a few characters they wanted for the theme, the rest was left up to me. its been a lot of fun. i am actually doing it on three huge billboards joined together covered with paper. i cant use paint on this kind of paper, so i am getting a lot of experience figuring out how to use marker, colored pencil, and crayon together for such a huge space. its good to learn how to use such ineffective mediums in such an effective way.....believe it or not, Ive found a way to use dried out marker in a really cool way.
