Exclamation Children's cancer or catastrophic illness~ st jude children hospital

"What would you do?" My sister asks of the doctor seeing her fifteen-year-old daughter, Kelly. They had just flown in from Haiti where they were running an orphanage, the Haitian doctor had just seen them a couple of days before had said to get her to the states quick, she had a blood disease.

Now at the nearest city hospital to their hometown they were were getting the diagnoses and making vital decisions. "She has leukemia." The doctor told them, "If it was my daughter I would take her to St. Jude Children's Experimental Hospital in Memphis!" they did.

Eight months ago, Kelly gave birth to her second healthy child. This past week Kelly returned for a "twenty one year survivor" follow up, of testing and she is excellent in every health category.

Her mother, my daughter, my granddaughter and I, joined Kelly, who now lives on east coast, and we made a week of it and enjoyed all Memphis has to offer, especially the barbeque Pork! Yummy. Three of us stayed on the hospital campus at the Grizzly (Memphis ball team) House, at no cost, the other two stayed at a near-by (discounted) first class hotel.

St Jude turns NO child with cancer or other catastrophic illnesses away for lack of insurance or money; caregivers are housed, fed, and transported at no cost. This place treats everyone with dignity and respect. It is a place where miracles happen. It is God blessed.

The look on the faces of the children and their parents is one of hope and relief. Please pass this important information on to everyone. The child (under eighteen) who becomes ill must have NO other treatment before coming to St. Jude it would mess up their experimental treatment.

Tell your Doctor you want your child treated at St. Jude and in the years to come you may be returning for a twenty-year follow up health check! St Jude treats the worlds children.

    Dear RheaB:
My cousin's daughter, 8, is suffering from leukemia. We pray for her daily! Every day is a challenge for her family. She was not at St Judes, though; her treatment is in the DC area.
Thanks for your wonderful story of St Jude's. My husband's ICD is programmed through St Jude's. Modern medicine is amazing; but not nearly as amazing as our loving God!
    love, a
