This has caused me to read more slowly and carefully, which is a very good thing . . . because it's the Bible, a book we never want to read quickly or carelessly. I love mothers. I wish all the time I could tell my mom just what a gift she was to me. Mothering, though, is not only limited to mothers. I am so grateful for the aunts, cousins, friends, sisters, and so many others who mother me in different ways. They listen to my woes, give me advice, bravely try my cooking, read what I write, celebrate big and little things with me, pray with and for me. Now it is my turn. I get to do all those things for these college kids. I also get to do them for my cousins
This is going to be my goal for the next few days. My good friend is getting married, and the least I can do for her is to be present and alive for the event. I've read more than once that 80% of faithfulness is just showing up. As Mr. M and I seek to be faithful in our new ministry to the college kids, our first step is just showing up-showing up to the Bible Study and to church, but also showing up to Korean B.B.Q., and going out for boba at 10 pm with a bunch of too-smart Asian kids. On an entirely different note, I was reading in the book of Revelation yesterday, in the letter Jesus wrote to the church at Ephesus. Jesus commended the church members for their knowledge and discernment, but He warned them that they had lost their first love, namely, Him. No matter how much Bible trivia we know or how theologically savvy we are, we must not forget to love Jesus. If our passion for Him grows cold, then all our facts and trivia knowledge are for naught.
