A little different T-Giving tradition
Since through the years our family of three siblings has grown and spread into many different parts of the US and it is not always convenient to gather on the correct holiday; we have adjusted and do what we have to do for those who can make it to Kentucky "near" the holiday. We don't serve the traditional meal on these visits because we are usually over-filled on those foods already. This Thanksgiving holiday we, the ones who can, seventeen or eighteen members will join in celebration after the "day" on Saturday and have a feast! My daughter's four-alarm chili will be the main course, it will clean our pallets of the turkey, dressing and other goodies consumed for several previous days. We have side dishes of choice to treat our various taste buds; the east side of the state family eats peanut butter with their chili that is offered in three ways; with meat and beans, bean-less or meatless. The west side of the state people eat cinnamon rolls with their chili, some have crackers, some have chips, most use a giant scoop of cheddar cheese and sour cream on top. Of course, there are plenty of other special dishes to temp and add on the extra pounds for the coming winter's warmth.
At my side door my family share hugs and greetings of "Hi y'all!" and after thanks to a gracious God we then we slurp chili for most of the day!

No, our family does things quite regular or so I like to think. My grandfather and mothers children and their children's children visit for the holiday, they bring in their own dishes to the point we have to bring out extra tables sometimes. Sort of like a pot luck. There are so many different styles of doing things its fun. We all join in prayer before the meal and celebrate after together. Its amazing how far some travel across country to visit the little home in the country and it means a lot when they do. Overall its a great time! I'm grateful God has given us such caring family out there. Your Thank Givings sound wonderful though! I love the chilli idea for when we have to set Thanksgiving a bit later than the correct date too, may give it a try! One of the things I always make up that they all chow down are my cranberry pecan pies and than there's my special bosk pear spiral ham; its not something entirely different but its amazing! Cloves, brown sugar, bosk pears and etc... The pears are quartered the long way and placed in the bottom of the pan beneath the ham. The sweetness and fragrance is so good. Than the pears get that spiced flavor that melts down with the juices of the pork. There are no left overs with that ham. I'd recommend it to anyone for trying out!
