Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever. Psalm 73:25-26
As I type these words, I am an overflowing river of emotions with gratitude, and an overwhelming love spilling from its banks. Words cannot express and my heart cannot contain the feelings outpouring to my God this evening as I sit in his presence and ponder all the wonderful and powerful truths in my Bible lesson this week. In preparing, I allowed myself to draw so near to God in worship that I could cry along with Aseph, the earth has nothing I desire besides You, Lord…You are the strength of my heart and my portion forever!
I absolutely love sweet moments like these with my God, when I love Him so much that I can hardly stand it. Jesus has gone from not even being a part of my life at all, to becoming my everything. I cannot even fathom how I ever lived without the tender love of my Lord, and without the peace and truth that now are my guide in life.
He is my King, my Master, and my Lord. He provides, protects and prevents me from living out of my fleshly nature (Praise God!) He leads, He lights my way, and loves me like no one else can.
He is my God, my Saviour and I so adore Him!
Our walk with God is not always like this though, it is a journey and it ebbs and flows with the path of life we are on. Sometimes we draw near and sometimes we pull away. Sometimes we reach out and take the hand of Jesus and other times we are stubborn as an ox insisting on bearing our heavy burdens alone even as Jesus offers to carry them for us. We don’t love God perfectly, although He loves us this way, and we cannot learn to love Him more apart from the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. As our faith grows, so does our love, and we will find that as we mature in our Christian walk, we will walk closer to God, and more and more it will feel like He is becoming our portion.
I long for God to be my everything and for God to truly be my portion, but the thing is, He already is. That is my reality as an heiress of God. I only need learn day by day, to walk in the truth of who I already am. He is my portion and I am His.
