It’s another beautiful morning here and as I have been sharing my thoughts and feelings with God this morning; He has laid some very special verses on my mind, to share with you today. As we begin this morning; let’s read a few bible verses, from Psalm 107:29-30 and we read… “He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. (30) They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.”

I would say; that through the past 20-25 years of my life; I have had a favorite hymn; that has always been of comfort to me; while going through overwhelming moments of pain and heartache. We all seem to hold a special Bible verse or two, close to our hearts but one hymn that God has used many times in my life to comfort me and reassure me of His love, is…“The Haven of Rest” and here are the lyrics to this song… “My soul in sad exile, was out on life’s sea, so burdened with sin and distressed, till I heard a sweet voice, saying, “Make Me your choice”; and I entered the “Haven of Rest”! (Refrain) I’ve anchored my soul in the “Haven of Rest,” I’ll sail the wide seas no more; the tempest may sweep o’er the wild and stormy deep but in Jesus I’m safe evermore. I yielded myself to His tender embrace, in faith taking hold of the Word; my fetters fell off, and I anchored my soul; the “Haven of Rest” is my Lord. The song of my soul, since the Lord made me whole, has been the old story so blest; of Jesus, who’ll save whosoever will have; a home in the “Haven of Rest.” How precious the thought that we all may recline, like John, the beloved so blest; on Jesus’ strong arm, where no tempest can harm, secure in the “Haven of Rest.” Oh, come to the Savior, He patiently waits, to save by His power divine; come, anchor your soul in the “Haven of Rest,” and say, “My Beloved is mine.” (Refrain) I’ve anchored my soul, in the “Haven of Rest:” I’ll sail the wide seas no more; the tempest may sweep o’er the wild and stormy deep but in Jesus, I’m safe evermore.”

It seemed as though the past few days; God has brought this song to my thoughts several times and as I was searching for a Bible verse or two this morning; He led me directly to Psalm 107:29-30. Whenever I think of these words; I picture Jesus, as a safe haven or place of refuge; while out on a stormy sea of circumstance. I know in my heart; that when I choose to leave the circumstance behind and seek shelter, in His “Haven of Rest;” then I will be sheltered and cared for, until the storm passes by.

How many times, do we become so caught up in the storm; while we size up the waves of problems; that seem to keep smacking us in the face? Don’t we realize; that if choose to stay within the storm, rather than walk away from these moments; that they will only continue to batter and beat us up, until we can no long keep our heads above the waters of circumstance?

Today, we need to stop focusing on the storm around us and what is attempting to drive fear within our thoughts and begin to look for a shelter; where we can hide away from the storm and the only shelter that I have found, to be safe and secure; during storms like these; is in the shelter of God’s almighty wings. We must remember that we do not have to allow these stormy waters to abuse us and pull us, into the depth of despair, when we can seek a strong shelter in Jesus…a shelter that can weather any storm that may arise within our lives.

I love the chorus to this song, which says… “I’ve anchored my soul, in the “Haven of Rest,” I’ll sail the wide seas no more, the tempest may sweep o’er the wild and stormy deep but in Jesus, I’m safe evermore;” which means that the storm of circumstance can become wild and out of control, within our lives but when we allow Jesus to become our safe shelter or “Haven of Rest;” then we can rest assured; that we will be safe, until the storm ceases to rage no more.
